You need a ranked list of US importers for a product—not a scraped directory. This tutorial pulls that list from customs records with the EximAgent [CLI](https://eximagent.ai/cli) or [connector](https://eximagent.ai/connectors) (hosted MCP server). We use green coffee, HS **090111**, as the worked example. Output below is from a real run on **27 Oct 2026** (Asia/Saigon).

Customs data is incomplete by design. Treat the ranking as research, not a full market census. See [customs data limitations](https://eximagent.ai/blog/customs-data-limitations).

## What you'll use

- **CLI** — scripts and terminals
- **Connector / MCP server** — Claude, Cursor, Codex or another MCP client at `https://mcp.eximagent.ai/mcp`

Both are free to start. Sign in with Google (no API key to paste).

## Install and sign in (CLI)

```bash
# macOS (Apple silicon) / Linux
curl -fsSL https://cli.eximagent.ai/install | sh
# Windows (PowerShell)
irm https://cli.eximagent.ai/install.ps1 | iex
eximagent login
eximagent whoami
```

Wire the MCP server into your tools:

```bash
eximagent connect claude-code   # or: codex / cursor
# Claude Code direct:
claude mcp add --transport http eximagent https://mcp.eximagent.ai/mcp --scope user
```

Chat apps: add the custom connector URL on [/connectors](https://eximagent.ai/connectors).

## Step 1 — pick the product code

If you only have a description, classify first:

```bash
eximagent hscode search --query "green coffee beans, not roasted" --limit 5
```

For this walkthrough we already know the six-digit code: **090111** (coffee, not roasted, not decaffeinated). Browse the code on the [HS code lookup](https://eximagent.ai/hscode/09/090111) or the [importer list for 090111](https://eximagent.ai/companies/hs/090111).

## Step 2 — rank US importers

Ask for importers into the US, grouped by company, ordered by value over the trailing 12 months:

```bash
eximagent analytics query \
  --groupBy importer \
  --measures value_usd,shipment_count \
  --filters '[{"dim":"hs6","op":"=","value":"090111"},{"dim":"dest","op":"=","value":"US"}]' \
  --timeWindow trailing-12m \
  --orderBy value_usd --descending --limit 8
```

In chat with the connector: *"Who are the top US importers of HS 090111 in the last 12 months by value?"*

## Real output (27 Oct 2026)

Condensed from the JSON response for readability (columns shown: importer, shipment\_count, value\_usd). Source: EximAgent connector, `exim__analytics__query`, trailing-12m, dest=US, hs6=090111.

```text
## Step 3 — what to do with the list
- Open a company on the [090111 importer list](https://eximagent.ai/companies/hs/090111) or pull a profile with the company tools.
- **Outbound** can research buyers and **draft** outreach emails; **your own agent sends** from your mailbox.
- For the raw shipments behind a name, use `eximagent shipments search` / `eximagent company shipments` (see [bill-of-lading / shipment tutorial](https://eximagent.ai/blog/query-bill-of-lading-records-mcp-cli)).
## Caveats
- Rankings reflect **filed customs records in coverage**, not every importer that exists.
- Names are as they appear on filings; the same corporate family can appear under more than one string.
- Value and shipment counts are corpus aggregates for the filters you set—not audited financials.
## FAQ
### Do I need an API key for the CLI or connector?
No. Sign in with Google (OAuth). The hosted MCP server is at `https://mcp.eximagent.ai/mcp`.
### Which command ranks US importers by value?
Use `eximagent analytics query` with `--groupBy importer`, filters on `hs6` and `dest` (for example US), `--timeWindow trailing-12m`, and `--orderBy value_usd --descending`. The same tools power the connector in chat.
### Is the ranking a complete list of every US importer?
No. Rankings reflect filed customs records in coverage, not every importer that exists. Coverage is reported as partial in the sample run. Treat the list as research, not a full market census.
### Are the CLI and connector free?
Both are free to start. Sign in with Google; there is no API key to paste.
